Canal Boat Holidays

July 13th, 2009 · No Comments

It took me a long time to consider taking my family on a Narrow Boat holiday here in the UK, I mean we don’t get the best weather, even during the summertime, but last year I did just that.

Any seasoned canal boat holiday maker will quickly point out that nowadays the boats are simple to use as well as being very spacious and come well equipped with all mod cons.

The appeal of a canal boat holiday comes not from its simplicity, but rather the really relaxed experience of drifting quietly along the waterways amidst the unspoilt British countryside drawing in the fresh air and tranquility whilst occasionally stopping for lunch at a traditional waterside restaurant, or enjoying a cooked breakfast in the glittering morning sunshine before visiting a stately home or even a theme park along your chosen route.

There are many UK tour operators offering a huge selection of narrow boats, so its straightforward to find the boat thats right for your party, whether its just the 2 of you or you are part of a larger group (or even if you want to go it alone).

Typically your boat will come equipped with all mod cons; central heating is provided (because you just never know with the British weather); the kitchen is equipped enough to cook a sunday roast and the lounge area is large enough for the family to sit down at the end of the day and catch up on your favourite TV shows.

The bathrooms too do not disappoint, decently sized and consisting of a toilet, a basinĀ  and a shower (or a batch if you would prefer).

You start your holiday at one of many hand picked bases and from there you dictate what happens next as you start to explore the miles of peaceful waterways and canals as you drift through the idyllic British countryside.

{If fishing is your thing then simply moor up your boat and cast your rod overboard. It really is the holiday with ultimate flexibility built in – you choose where you want to go and how far you want to travel}.
