Is There Any Camping In Las Vegas ?

October 31st, 2009 · No Comments

There are three words that I never imagined I would ever say in a single sentence : Vegas camping.  Somehow the terms just don’t seem to mesh, do they ?.  This is maybe why I told my partner he was crazy when he revealed that he prepared a Las Vegas camping trip last year.

When most of us consider visiting Las Vegas, campgrounds are not the very first thing that comes to mind.  With all the top Las Vegas hotels available, all the casinos and shows, many of us wouldn’t dream of this as a destination although we might like the fantastic outdoors.  But, in addition to being one of the best destinations for travellers who prefer to live the high life, Vegas is also one of the best places to experience the fantastic outside.  Las Vegas camping is truly top-quality.

Of course, Las Vegas camp grounds vary dreadfully significantly in quality, so you have to do your analysis conscientiously.  Vegas camping is only really a brilliant thought if you are there for something other than the shows, nightlife and casinos. By all means take a trip or two into town but the main reason for camping should be the outdoor attractions that you will find near your campsite. The fact is, if you’d like excellent Las Vegas camping at a reasonable price, you’ve got to get well outside of the city boundaries.  Otherwise, all you will find will be drive-in camping at way higher costs than you really should have to pay.  The best Vegas camping is along one of the rivers that flow through the state of Nevada.  As an example, you can kayak below the Hoover dam on the Colorado River.  There are lots of camping sites in Las Vegas, but unless you’ve got a specific area to mind , or you are looking for a camping holiday that includes a trip to a show or casino then there are much better places for you to take your holiday.

The reason for that is that Vegas camping tends to be a bit coarse.  The weather will invariably be incredibly hot, and there is a lack of the cool shady wooded areas that most people like on their camping trips.  This isn’t to say that you need to give up on Las Vegas camping.  It can offer its own rewards, but it isn’t for the faint of heart.  You would do far better camping up in the Northwest if you’re searching for a excellent first out of doors destination.

Spending day after day in the desert can be a really trying experience for a novice camper.  Vegas camping, of course , needs some of the most careful preparations that you can imagine.  If you are going to go into the desert to camp, you need to bring lots of water, the right food, and the right clothing.  Keeping cool when doing Vegas camping is nearly a matter of survival.  If you do not manage to do it, you may lose your strength quickly.  You can be marooned miles and miles from civilization.  Things can get extremely dark very quickly in the desert, so be forewarned and be prepared.  Some may suggest that you wear long sleeves and relaxed fit slacks to keep the sun off your skin, you may want to place that recommendation aside.  The first day of our Vegas camping journey was really uncomfortable especially since I was dressed from top to bottom.

Wear shorts and a t-shirt.  Trust me.  You can expect to do lots of walking during the Las Vegas camping trip and you really need to keep cool.  Otherwise you might find yourself feeling beat and uncomfortable.

With all the walking involved on a Las Vegas camping excursion you really want to invest in shoes that keep your feet content.  I learned that my shoes were the elite of the crop and my feet were thanking me even on day one.  Shoes are just some of the most significant things to reckon about when plotting your Vegas camping trip.

Remember your suntan lotion.  The sun is always bright.  O.K, there’s the occasional downpour that comes out of nowhere but the rain leaves as swiftly as it comes.  I haven’t ever seen anything like it.  Suntan lotion is an absolute must on your Las Vegas camping holiday.
