SQUAW VALLEY USA – Hundreds of skiers and snowboarders loved a few inches of new snow and one guy crazy enough to parachute from the well-known Squaw tram during the mountain’s opening day on Saturday.
After a champagne toast celebrating the resort’s 60th anniversary, J.T. Holmes, friend of the late Squaw huge-mountain legend Shane McConkey, jumped from the top of the tram car, opened his parachute and within seconds landed safely in the village.
Heavenly, Northstar-at-Tahoe and Mount Rose also opened on Saturday.
