Cabins or Tents at Shinnyboo Creek
Recently we needed to get away for a quick vacation and we did not want to break the bank. We wanted some solitude and some quiet time after a hectic month around our house.
We found Shinnyboo Creek cabins. Located a few miles west of Donner Summit in Tahoe, Shinnyboo Creek cabins has several small cabins for rent as well as tent cabins spread along the Yuba River.
We went for the tent cabins so we could "rough it" a bit and still be somewhat comfortable at night. A bed is a good thing when you need relaxin. You can bring your own bed sheets or Shinnyboo will provide for a small fee. We brought our own and stayed nice and cozy.
The area is very nice and peaceful. Located at the end of the Eagle Lakes Rd off I80 there is not much through traffic and so unlike many campground/cabins you don't get lots of cars coming by the house...
The tent cabins are spacious and well built. Will the camp host has
done a nice job of constructing them. Our cabin had a fire pit, BBQ grill, picnic table, large water storage, and a fully enclosed ten cabin that slept six if necessary. We only had three of us so plenty of room.
We loved the short stroll down to the river. There we found a huge swimming hole that must have been 100 yards by 20 yards and was way deep enough to swim in June. The water was cool but not freezing so we jumped in and had a grand time. I saw some folks fishing the river but it really didn't look like much for fishing in this location.
We felt pretty comfortable and remote in our tent which made it very easy to get de stressed from city living. The tent cabins share camp showers and toilets. The showers feature hot water and the shower head is mounted on the large granite boulder which gives a nice feel to getting clean.
The cabins at Shinnyboo are farther from the river but yet feature
nice accommodations and comfortable quarters for those who would rather not camp. They also have a nice area for wedding ceremonies to be performed in the woods. Nice touch.
